After receiving requests from soldiers searching for a high-quality magazine pouch for the Army’s new M7 rifle, Wilde Custom Gear developed a purpose-built solution designed around the platform’s larger magazines and the demands of real-world field use.

A New Rifle Requires a New Loadout

The M7 rifle represents one of the most significant changes to the Army’s standard individual weapon system in decades.

Developed through the Next Generation Squad Weapon program, the SIG Sauer-manufactured rifle was selected to replace the M4A1 within the Army’s close combat force. The M7 uses the Army’s new 6.8 mm family of ammunition and is intended to provide increased range, accuracy and lethality compared with legacy 5.56 mm weapon systems.

The transition also changes what soldiers carry on their equipment.

The M7 uses a larger magazine than the standard 30-round AR-15 and M4 magazine. That difference affects pouch dimensions, retention, spacing and the way ammunition is positioned across a plate carrier, chest rig or battle belt.

Trying to force a new magazine into equipment designed around a different weapon system can result in poor fit, inconsistent retention and difficult access.

The M7 is being introduced as part of a broader modernization effort that includes the M250 Automatic Rifle, the M157 fire-control optic and the Army’s new 6.8 mm ammunition family. The Army officially granted standard type classification to the M7 and M250 in May 2025 and has continued fielding the systems across the close combat force.

A modern rifle system needs supporting equipment that integrates cleanly with the equipment soldiers already use.
