Originally developed in the early 1980s, Desert Night Camouflage was a specialized pattern created by the U.S. military to defeat Soviet-era night vision during nighttime desert operations. Its distinctive green grid overlay on olive drab wasn’t about looking cool—it was about disrupting infrared visibility and giving American forces the upper hand after dark.
DNC was issued in very limited quantities during Operation Desert Storm, worn over standard uniforms to provide nighttime concealment from enemy optics. While most camo fools the human eye, Desert Night Camo was engineered to beat technology.
